I’m a huge fan of a good “About” page. When searching government agencies for jurisdiction, responsibility, or statutory basis, I’m always pleased to find a well-developed page defining an agency (or any other website, for that matter.)
About tabs are the Internet’s name-tags.
Details like function, staff, and history are always useful, and bonus points go to any agencies (or committees) that cite the laws that led to their creation. (This can sometimes be difficult, regrettably, due to the difficulty in finding legal information online that is more than 10 years old.)
My love of “about” tabs explains my excitement at having received my copy of the US Government Manual in the mail yesterday. Lovers of organizational charts and dissections of complex administrative structures should rejoice at its detail and comprehensiveness; this is the mother of all organizational charts, explaining every aspect of the US Government in minute detail.
You can revel in the flow-charty glory for $5.75 from the GPO. Quite a deal.
