The FEC website seems to have been through a recent upgrade, and now features some compelling content.
Most notably, they’ve created a Presidential Campaign Finance map, which presents campaign contributions to Presidential candidates with spheres overlayed on a national map, with data broken down by candidate and state.
From the website:
Introduction – This page summarizes financial information disclosed by each active 2008 Presidential candidate who has reported at least $10,000 in contributions from individuals other than the candidate. Currently, information presented here covers from the start of each campaign through March 31, 2007. The next campaign finance reports are due to be received at the FEC on July 15 and will cover through June 30, 2007. Information from those reports will be updated for national and state maps on the morning after reports are received.
Transparent, timely, compelling… This is great use of technology to make a pile of data useful and appealing.
They also have a slick calendar feature, listing agency events and filing deadlines.
Kudos to the Webmaster at the FEC.
